To Kindle?
She ranted on: Wednesday, January 6, 2010 | Time: 11:39 PM
Dear Internets,

The Kindle: an unknown concept to me before a few weeks ago but now I'm almost certain I'll end up with one. I understand why some people hate it; they hold none of the romance and history of a beautifully bound hardcover or a travelling paper back. I also understand that my fear of dog ears and my failing bookshelf is making the kindle look pretty good. Yep my books got too heavy for my bookself and one of the slats broke.

Much of my time at work is spent waiting on clients and so little of my life is spent reading books. I have 4 books on my night stand and am currently running out of space to put all these books I keep buying. I figure this way if I come across a book I really feel I need to own after reading it, i'll splurge for a hardcover. Hopefully by this time I will also have a home of my own to crowd with books

So do you think I'm completely mad?

So if my resolution to read more is not such a strange concept to you perhaps you'd like to join Gabbi and Diana on their adventure; slow readers book club. I've join in an attempt to stop my clearly uncouth ways and become a little more refined and cultured. The club gives no such promises but I've decided to exercise some creative license early *smirk*

Best be off. I'm back at work I a few short days so I have little precious time to:
1. catch up with old friends over coffee and photos

2. Wish everyone I know a happy new year before the month is over and it becomes awkward

3. Find images of hearts in ordinary objects for much love monday : I love getting organised at the beginning of the year.

4. Curl my little sister's hair for no apparent reason

Still pondering the kindle

Hmm, I'm more of the old-fashioned kind who loves feeling the pages of a book with my bare fingertips! Though I have more books than spaces to put them too, maybe I'll just have to move into a bigger place lol:P

Love your new year pic:)

xx

I have a love/hate relationship with the kindle. I'm a graphic designer so things like this take away from my work and my legacy as an artist... however the tech geek in me really loves this idea. Especially if you travel a lot. One of these would have come in REALLY handy for my last flight home and back. I think it's great for that aspect. Bottom line is though otherwise I'd want a real book in my hands to hold, cherish and sniff. (Yes I sniff books.. I love the smell of a fresh book as much as an old musty book) :) *weirdo*

No you aren't a wierdo, i love the smell of old books too. I do travel A LOT for work and as i mentioned, i'm waiting around a lot too. I hate damaging my books because I love them so. It's more for it's functional aspect + i can put work on there and review on the go. Will never give up buying books though. I love them too much, even if they break my pretty book shelves

Great post. I have a Kindle myself. I love it. With a Kindle, I actually read faster, I carry it with me everywhere. I'm a librarian, I adore books and I don't take them for granted. Just like when cars came to, everyone who was so used to carriages and horses, or other forms of transportation. Anything new people are afraid of. I love books, but it's what reading that me love them, not the piece of paper. Does that make sense? I hope you get one.

And yes, I did get your email :)

I love real books, sorry...I guess that makes me eco-selfish. :( I too have night stand that has about 20 books on it, and they are dangerously close to falling on the floor, but I love looking at my accomplishments and my foreboding "unfinished" titles. I can see the allure of the Kindle, but I don't think I would invest in one until it became a government mandate or there was only one tree left on earth and there was no other source of shade or oxygen. wait...do we get oxygen from trees? I was bad at science.

im old fashioned about books too..i like the idea of the kindle, but I can't part with the way a book feels in my hands, even the way it smells, and the look of a well worn book, read and reread is my favorite.

I think a kindle would be lovely, but I can't part with my paper books!

before buying a kindle, Apple is coming out with their own *tablet*, which will certainly include a book reader.
